Playing With Parametric Design II - The Laser Cut Objects

Ok so here are my laser cut patterns, I ended up cutting out all three designs because I kept them fairly small (they actually work great as coasters!). The process was way quicker on the laser cutter than I expected, even when we ran the design a couple times to get the depths correct.

We used the etch tool path (or I guess laser path?) for the designs on the surface and cut through for the exterior shape. I am used to working with CNCs in wood so it is strange to not have to take into account tool diameters and direction of cut!

The other shapes that I cut out used the same grasshopper pattern but I thought it would be neat to apply them to earring pendants and see if I could introduce colour into the etched patterns. I did some experimenting with inks but I ended up using acrylic paint that I applied then wiped off the surface of the plexi, leaving the paint in the laser cuts. I also cut a small through hole on the laser cutter so I can get a hook in. It worked fairly well, not sure how long the colour will last but it works for now :D

And lastly I have a couple videos of the cutting process:
